About FLUX 2020

International Workshop on Online and Digital Flux

Pedagogies during the Time of COVID-19 (FLUX)

The term “flux pedagogy” was coined by Prof. Dr. Sharon M. Ravitch (University of Pennsylvania) to refer to the transformation of teaching approaches in times of radical flux through the integration of relational and critical pedagogies. The word flux itself describes something that constantly changes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, life has become an indefinite state of flux with unprecedented concerns involving the global health, life uncertainties, family emergencies, compromised physical and mental well-being, economic disparity, disrupted routines, and changing norms. In respond to these influx of global concerns, how does the academic community adapt and transform their teaching practices and approaches? Since in-person teaching and classes became a non-viable option, what have our educators done differently within the realm of online and digital spaces? As noted by Ravitch (2020), this global moment requires us to learn a set of new skills for designing and enacting humanizing and transformative pedagogy with our students as we teach them specific content areas.
